August 30, 2007 Week 12 Results - Final
results are published! see link above.
***Matt Brandt edges out Chris Renz by
0.53 points to take the season title***. Using the wildcard,
Chris ran 2.0@35off to take the season lead by a 1/2 point.
Matt needed 1.5@38off to win. After a shakey 5 ball at
@35off, Matt cruised to an easy 2.0@38 to take home the
Frosini Cup and $250 cash prize.
For the weekly results, Dave Hurwitz ran
28off for the first time this season to take home 1st place
for week 12. This will also qualify Dave for the
Head-to-Head tournament (more on that later). Randy Adams
posted 4@22off for 2nd place, and Matt Brandt's 2.0@38off
was good for third.
Now for the Head-to-Head.....The top eight
cumulative scores qualify but at least one (Rich Pingatore
cannot make the tournament). So, tentative seedings and
first round match-ups are as follows:
Chris Renz (1) vs. Dave Hurwitz (8) Scott
McNerney (4) vs. Randy Adams (5) Dave Ritter (3) vs. Scott
Lindgren (6) Matt Brand (2) vs. Craig Arnold (7)
Steve Parlett is next in line in case
anyone can't make it. Qualified skiers, please confirm ASAP
that you plan to attend on Sun. Sept 9th. Once, I have
everyone confirmed, I'll send out handicapping and final
rules for the HTH.
Thanks everyone for a great Year 1 of
Berkeley Ski League.
August 28, 2007 Week 11 Results
36mph skiers returned in week 11 to take 2
of the 3 top spots. Scott Lindgren posted 3@32off for 12.16
points and first place. Kevin Kreeger (the lone 34mph skier
placing) rounded 2.0@35off for 10.10 and second place. Troy
Crivello made a last minute appearance and to steal 3rd from
Richelle Matli by a mere 0.25 points. Troy ran 1.5@32off for
7.35 points.
Approaching the final week, skiers are
positioning for the head-to-head on Sept 9th. With only Rich
Pingatore expected to be absent, we expect a top 9 finish
will be required to qualify (we'll take the top 8 that plan
to attend). As of today, Steve Parlett holds the final spot,
but at least 5 skiers are in the running.
For the coveted League Champion title,
only 3 skiers have mathematical chance to win in the last
week. Matt Brandt is currently in first place over Chris
Renz by 0.5 points. Chris can tie Matt with 5.5@32off in the
final week provided Matt doesn't increase his score. Rich
Pingatore can also take over first place with a run of
2.5@38off.
August 10, 2007 - Week 9 Results
With overcast skies and calm winds, we saw
another week of strong performances this week. We also had
our first spectators (they saw it on the web site and wanted
to come watch).
Of the 14 skiers, 11 posted positive
scores. Rich Pingatore took down last weeks season record
for highest net score. Rich ran 1.0@38-off for a net score
of 12.63 and a landslide victory. In addition to the week 9
win, this score put Rich in contention for the Season
Champion race. He will need to keep up the top performances
since because as a result of this high score, his baseline
(or handicap) increases by about 5 buoys so now he starts
scoring after 5.5@32off (same as Dave Ritter).
Second place went to Craig Arnold who ran
1.0@35off for a net score of 8.20. Craig seems to have
recovered from his early season injury and has acclimated to
the salt water conditions. Craig has solid scores the last 2
weeks and is now the 7th seed for the head-to-head race.
Scott McNerney skied and flee'd to the
Giants game, but still managed to round 3.5 buoys at 28-off
for a net score of 7.25. This places Scott in the 6th seed
for the head-to-head. Scott is a feared competitor in the
head-to-head format after his victory at the Berkeley Fall
Open last year.
With only 3 weeks left, the season races
are starting to heat up. For the head-to-head tournament,
the top 4 skiers have all but assured their qualification.
Chris Renz, Matt Brandt, Dave Ritter, and Rich Pingatore
will all likely qualify. The next four spots are up for
grabs. Seeds 5-7 are held by Steve Parlett, Scott McNerney,
and Craig Arnold. There is less than 1/3rd point separating
these 3 skiers with 17.10-17.42 points. The last qualifying
spot is held by Randy Adams with 14.3 total points. The
final few spots will likely come down to the final week.
The Season Champion wins the League Cup,
$250, and potentially a trip to the Ski League National
tournament in Florida. The positions didn't change from last
week, but Chris Renz and Matt Brandt extended their leads
over Dave Ritter. With Rich Pingatore's recent high scores,
he is now a contender. In next weeks event, Matt can take
over the lead with a score of 5.5@35off and Rich could take
the lead with 3.0@38off. Dave Ritter remains in third place
but cannot take the lead with a single week's score. He must
put together a few good scores over the last 3 weeks. Chris
can only add to his season score by skiing better than
5.0@32off.
Next week, we're looking forward to chili
by Russel Pike, drinks from Karin, and possibly a Kevin
Semien showing.
August 2, 2007 - Week 8 Results
Week 8 delivered our best turnout and best ski performances
to date. We pulled 19 ski rides, including 2 4-year olds in
their first event. Steve Parlett won the week with the
season's top Net Score of 11.20 (1@32off), a full 3 buoys
beyond his personal best. Second place honors went to Rich
Pingatore for rounding 2 buoys at 35-off for a Net Score
of 9.54. Finally, Matt Brandt posted our season's top gross
score of 2.0@38off for a Net Score of 7.32 and third place.
This leads us to the season scoring. The race is tightening
for the head-to-head qualification. Nikki Vargas currently
holds the eighth and final qualifying spot with a season
score of 9.80. We saw this week that this can be achieved
with a single great performance. So everyone still has a
chance to qualify for the head-to-head on Sept. 9th.
For the Season Champion, its still a 3-man race but the
order has changed. Chris Renz has moved into first place and
Matt Brandt slides into second, leaving Dave Ritter in
third. The three skiers are seperated by less than 2 points
so it should come down to the wire. We've also seen threats
from other skiers to join the race at the top. Rich
Pingatore, Randy and Randall Frisk all have a chance at the
top spot if they finish the last 4 weeks strong.
Thank you to Randy Adams from brining food tonight. Craig
Arnold is scheduled for next week.
July 31, 2007 - Week 7 Results
Week 7 saw the revival of the
36mph skiers. Dan McAulay braved the wind and fog as the
last skier of the night to post a strong Net Score of 6.90
(3.0@34mph); Randall Frisk who skier early in the night came
in second with place with a respectable Net Score of 4.10
(5.0@36mph). Both were first time winners this season and
will have their baselines increased as a result of their
victories. For the Season Champion Standings, Dave Ritter
continues his hold on first place by an ever narrowing
margin (1.19 points). In Week 8, Chris Renz can re-claim 1st
place with a performance of 3.5@32-off or better. Matt
Brandt can pass both Chris and Dave by scoring a full 2.0
buoys @ 38off. Dave needs at least 2.5@35off to expand his
lead over the pack.
We're looking at another good turnout Aug
1st. Randy Adams is bringing food and I'll supply the
drinks. See everyone there. See you then.
